How to Apply EarthDye Natural Hair Dye at Home
Applying EarthDye takes much less time than a trip to the beauty salon and becomes easier each time. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, it can take as little as 10 minutes.
Before You Start - Important Tips
Always perform a skin and hair strand test before using any hair dye. Follow the provided instructions carefully for best results.
General Preparation Steps:
- Wash hair 2-3 times with clarifying shampoo (no conditioner)
- Towel-dry hair (damp is good, dry is acceptable)
- Wear gloves and protect floors/clothing
- Mix only what you need - store unused powder in cool, dry place
- Use warm tap water (not distilled or bottled)
- Achieve pudding-like consistency when mixing
Jet Black & Soft Black
Hair Application
- Preparation: Wash hair twice with clarifying shampoo. Towel-dry (damp preferred).
- Mixing: Mix powder with 1¼ to 1½ cups warm tap water until pudding-like consistency.
- Application: Apply from left ear to right ear in layers, then work down the back. Press paste down as you go.
- Processing: Leave on for 1 to 1.5 hours. If using shower cap, make small air holes.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
- Post-Treatment: Shampoo 18-24 hours later to prevent oxidation.
Beard Application
- Preparation: Clean facial hair twice with shampoo using toothbrush or beard brush.
- Mixing: Mix with tap water to thick pudding consistency.
- Application: Apply evenly with brush/spoon, ensuring all hairs are coated. Leave for 1 hour.
- Post-Treatment: Shampoo 18-24 hours later.
Black Hair Tips
- Gray/white hair may initially turn red or green - this is normal and will darken overnight
- Best to dye in early evening
- Oil treatments can prevent black dyes from working - wash hair 3x before application if using oils
- Color will not permanently stain face or hairline

Dark Brown Tips
- Gray/white hair may look red or green initially - will darken overnight
- Touch up roots as they grow, reapply to full head as color fades
- Avoid oil treatments for best results
